WELCOME TO CARNARVON TRADERS


Carnarvon Traders is updated on a regular basis. The updates are announced on the local Rootsweb Mailing Lists, e.g. Caernarfonshire, Gwynedd, & Clwyd, which means that if you are not subscribed to these particular lists you will miss the update announcements. If you would like to receive news of these updates, then join the mailing list (below), and you will be automatically notified by email.

What is Carnarvon Traders?

Carnarvon Traders is a website created to indulge my passion in the town's long and rich history, and also to help Family and Local Historians with their research. The aim of Carnarvon Traders is to bring genealogical and historical data online, and available to all.

What will I find on Carnarvon Traders?

Anything and everything related to the town's trading history, plus a few other things which, while not trade related, I find interesting enough to include. The various sections, which are linked to on the left, are briefly described below.

News

The latest news on anythng connected with the heritage of the town.

List of Trades

This is the main section of the site, with a complete list of all the trades, and a link to their individual pages. This is where the Trade Directories are to be found, but please note that they have been split up into the individual trades. You will also find the site search facility & Guestbook links here. These also appear at the bottom of this page.

Directories

A list of all the known Trade Directories which include Carnarvon in their listings. There is also an indication of which are already online, and which are currently in preparation. Please note that this is a list of the available directories only, the actual transcriptions are to be found in the "List of Trades" section.

Census

This section includes transcriptions of various census returns, including the rare 1794 Town Census.

Miscellaneous

Anything which does not fit into the other categories will be found here.

Biographies

A series of biographies of tradespeople which appear in the listings. Anybody who has researched such an individual is welcome to send in a biography.

Images

Photographs, old adverts, etc., in fact anything interesting relating to the town's trading past.

Parish Chest

Transcriptions of the Llanbeblig Parish Registers of Baptisms, Marriages & Burials.

Books

Books covering the history of the town and its immediate environs, plus links to where these books can be purchased.

Contributions by the well-known local historian Thomas Meirion Hughes. Fully bilingual. There is also a Forum where questions relating to the history of Caernarfon can be put to Meirion.
