VARIOUS COMPLAINTS
TO GRAND JURY
(UNDATED)

The Grand Jury is requested to Notice an encroachment made by Rice Jones in front of his late shop, by making the Street narrower, and breaking the line of Houses which injurus the property on both sides and making dangerous for Carriages to turn the corner trusting that means may be used to remove The same as soon as possible.

Up to the year 1801 Lord Newborough Rented the Customhouse, under the Corporation at the Yearly rent of Five pounds as will appear by the Corporation Rental and a balance of about Two hundred Pounds due then to the Corporation, but it does not appear, that the said sum was ever paid, and from the year 1802 the Rent is only charg'd Ten shillings in the Rental, but for what reason it is not known, probebly it might be an error in Copying, and instead of receiving that small sum, this recommended that the rent should be advanc'd to Sixty pounds yearly in future.

This recommended likewise that the proper Officers should go round twice a year at least to examine Weights & Measures, within the Town & Liberties, Standings on the streets should be removed to within half a yard of the Gutter, so as to leave sufficient room for Carriages to pass and repass. It is particularly dangerous on Market day. The Beadle should be enforc'd to do his duty in this attending, and likewise to keep away Street Beggars and See that the Market is not Forestalled There are great complaints on this point - in order to ensure a sufficiency of Water for the Corporation Tennants, this recommended that the Reservoir at Penrallt should be enlarg'd and Secured, and that every Housekeeper should supply himself with a Cistern to contain two day's supply and that the Town Cock should supply each street with water in rotation instead as at present to depend on the pipes service pipes, besides ruining the Vices, by continually turning them.

The land taken by the Railroad Company at the Marsh and along the Hill, should be forthwith measru'd and (...?...), and paid for to the Corporation. - likewise great quantity of Stones have been quarried out of the Quarry, and have been made use of by the Railroad Co as well as the prison (Revd J W Trevor)

Enquiries should be made to the acct of Robert Jones Architect, with the Corporation, by virtue of a Lease granted to him on the Quarry at Toothill.

Likewise on the Cottages on the Green what Ground was granted Lease upon to Thos Jones Esqr and if the same correspond
